About Radiation Technology
Engineering Safe Radiation Processing Plants
Raditech Hydromatics Pvt. Ltd. is a leading engineering company specializing in the design, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of Radiation Processing Plants across India.
With extensive expertise in industrial automation and radiation technology, we deliver state of the art irradiation facilities that comply with the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Our radiation processing solutions are widely used for the sterilization and decontamination of diverse range of products, including medical devices, pharmaceutical products, agricultural commodities, food products, spices, marine products, packaging materials, cosmetics, and other industrial applications.
What is Gamma Irradiation?
Gamma Irradiation is a highly effective and scientifically proven sterilization process that utilizes high-energy gamma rays to eliminate harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, insects, and other pathogens from products.
Similar to X-rays and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation. However, they possess significantly higher penetrating power, making them ideal for sterilizing even densely packed or sealed products.
Cobalt-60: The Heart of Gamma Irradiation
The primary source of gamma radiation used in industrial irradiation plants is Cobalt-60, a specially manufactured radioactive isotope designed exclusively for irradiation applications
The Cobalt-60 source is securely sealed within double-encapsulated stainless steel pencils, engineered to the highest international safety standards. These source pencils are installed within a specially designed irradiation system that operates under stringent regulatory guidelines, ensuring maximum operational safety and reliability.
Safety is the cornerstone of every radiation processing facility
When not in operation, the Cobalt-60 source remains completely submerged in a deep water storage pool, where the water acts as an effective radiation shield. During processing, the source is automatically raised into the irradiation chamber, which is enclosed by thick reinforced concrete walls specifically designed to prevent the escape of gamma radiation.
Gamma Irradiation is widely recognized as a cold sterilization process because it does not cause any significant increase in the temperature of the treated products. Unlike conventional sterilization methods, it requires no chemicals, gases, heat, or pressure, making it an environmentally friendly and residue-free solution.
The process offers numerous advantages, including:
● Effective elimination of bacteria, viruses, fungi, insects, and other pathogens.
● Sterilization of products after final packaging, minimizing the risk of recontamination.
● Preservation of product quality, functionality, and structural integrity.
● No chemical residues or toxic by-products.
● Improved product safety and extended shelf life.
● Suitable for a wide variety of medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, food, marine, and industrial products.
